 Abstract:  Thomas Campbell was an author, community leader, and professor and university administrator who co-founded the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University and served as its director. Campbell served as president of the City Club of Cleveland, and was instrumental in opening its doors to women. He directed the Cleveland Heritage Program for Cleveland Public Library. He ran for mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1977. He founded the Irish American Archives Society and was deeply involved in the Irish American community of Cleveland, as well as numerous other groups in the Cleveland, Ohio area. The collection consists of agendas, awards, biographical data, correspondence, diaries, a dissertation, examination papers, flyers, invitations, magazine articles, memberships, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, photographs, plays, poems, programs, recipes, reports, resumes, speeches, workshops and writings.

 Abstract:  The Cleveland Council on World Affairs is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization in Cleveland, Ohio, that seeks to educate the public on foreign affairs through lectures, discussions, overseas tours, and programs for students. The group was formally organized in 1921 as the Council for the Prevention of War, became the Council for the Promotion of Peace in 1923, the International Affairs Committee in 1929, the Foreign Affairs Committee in 1933, and the Cleveland Council on World Affairs in 1943. Brooks Emery was director and president, 1935-1947. The collection consists of historical information, minutes, calendars of events, committee lists, correspondence, speeches and clippings. The collection reflects the activities of the Council from its inception until 1976 and provides insights into U.S. foreign policy during that time period. Among the major issues considered was how to deal with Japan after World War II.

 Abstract:  The George Gund Foundation is a charitable foundation established by Cleveland, Ohio, businessman and philanthropist George Gund. It supports education and various projects of community organizations located primarily in northeastern Ohio, but also in Ohio and the United States. Of particular interest to the Foundation are new teaching methods and education for disadvantaged people. The arts, civic affairs, economic development, the environment, and human services are also priorities of the Foundation. Abortion rights, women's issues, handgun control, homelessness, equal housing, museum development, retinitis pigmentosa research, AIDS public policy and education, community gardening, historic preservation, population control, family planning, and nuclear weapons control are also areas supported by the Foundation. The collection consists primarily of grant files. These grant files include audited financial statements, brochures, correspondence, proposals, newspaper clippings, reports, publications, and other material submitted as attachments to proposals and reports. The collection also includes studies, receipts, minutes, notes, agendas, charters, and evaluations.

 Abstract:  John Cumming Johnson moved to Memphis, Tennessee, from Franklin, Ohio, in 1854. In 1856 he married Mary Anne Elizabeth Fisher. They were active in many philanthropic enterprises, especially education. Johnson and his son, William Cumming Johnson, were involved in the cotton trade. William Cumming Johnson was a major stockholder in the Tennessee Fiber Co. and had extensive real estate dealings in Florida. In 1877 he married Sarah Evangeline Harvey. She was the daughter of Charles T. Harvey, a New England structural engineer, and Sarah Van Eps Harvey. "Eva" Harvey married William Cumming Johnson in 1897 and settled in Tennessee, where she was a homemaker and mother. The Johnsons had four sons, Harvey B., Richard Selden, William C. Jr. and Burton Hayley. Lilian Wycoff Johnson, the sister of William Cumming Johnson, was one of the South's pioneer women educators. She served as president of the Western College for Women at Oxford, Ohio, founded the West Tennessee Normal School (now Memphis State College), and established a center for social and cooperative work on the Cumberland Plateau at Summerfield, Tennessee which was called KinCo. It later became the Highlander Folk School. The collection consists of portraits and views of the Johnson family of Memphis, Tennessee, including William Cumming Johnson, his wife Sarah Evangeline Harvey Johnson, his sister Lilian Wycoff Johnson, their family, friends, residences, and travels. Also included in this collection are views of KinCo Farm and Highlander School near Monteagle, Tennessee, founded by Lilian Wycoff Johnson.

 Abstract:  The Western Reserve Manuscripts is a collection of small manuscript accessions that have been donated to the Western Reserve Historical Society since its founding in 1867. These manuscripts often consist of one document but can include multiple items contained in one folder. This collection of material documents numerous subjects and themes in the history of Cleveland, Ohio, and the region of northeast Ohio known as the Western Reserve. The collection consists of advertisements, agreements, applications, articles, autobiographies, autograph books and autographs, biographical sketches, certificates, correspondence, deeds, diaries, drawings, envelopes, genealogies, histories, indentures, invoices, letters, lists, manuscripts, memoranda, newspaper clippings, notes, papers, photographs, poems, receipts, reports, scripts, speech transcripts, telegrams, and other material. Western Reserve Historical Society library staff began to describe these manuscripts in this finding aid in 2015. This is an ongoing project that will be updated for public access as the project progresses in real time.
